Guidelines & Policies

  • The following guidelines must be adhered to by students using a personally-owned electronic device at school:

      1. Student use of a personally-owned device must support the instructional activities currently occurring in the school environment.
      2. "Devices down" - We will use the universal phrase "Devices Down" to signal when the teacher wants the students to put the devices down and listen for instructions. Campus administrators and teachers have the right to prohibit use of devices at certain times or during designated activities.
      3. Internet access is filtered by WMCTC on personal devices in the same manner as WMCTC-owned equipment. If network access is needed, connection to the filtered, wireless network provided by WMCTC is required.
      4. Student devices with camera and video capability can be used only for educational use under the authority of the teacher and must not be used to impinge upon the privacy of students and staff.
      5. These devices are the sole responsibility of the student owner. WMCTC assumes no responsibility for personal devices if they are lost, loaned, damaged or stolen and only limited time or resources will be spent trying to locate stolen or lost items.
      6. These devices have educational and monetary value. Students are prohibited from trading or selling these items to other students on WMCTC property, or on district school buses.
      7. Each student is responsible for his/her own device: set-up, maintenance, and charging. Teachers will not store student devices at any time, nor will any WMCTC employee diagnose, repair, or work on a student’s personal device.
      8. Electronic devices (personal or WMCTC-owned) will not be used as a factor in grading or assessing student work. Students who do not have access to personal devices will be provided with comparable district-owned equipment or given similar assignments that do not require access to electronic devices.
      9. An appropriately-trained administrator may examine a student’s personal device and search its contents, in accordance with the law, if there is a reason to believe that the Acceptable Use Policy has been violated.
      10. Students are expected to follow the 815 Acceptable Use Policy and the 237 Electronic Device Policy
