PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Students that graduate from this program may continue to study Criminal Justice/Fire Science at college level. The Montgomery County Community College will give (3) credits in Criminal Justice and Fire Science for successfully completing this class. Students also obtain skills necessary to become criminal investigators, and vehicle accident investigators. Students may also enroll in the Montgomery County Police Academy and become Police Officers, as well as Military Police Officers. Students can enter into the private sector as Emergency Medical Technicians, Firefighters, Private Investigators, Security Consultants and Dignitary Security. Students can become police, fire, and ambulance dispatchers. Opportunities for the graduates of this program are outstanding. Emergency service agencies are competing for qualified entry-level employees with the skills taught in this program.

OCCUPATIONAL DESCRIPTION
It is essential that anyone entering the Protective Services Program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills required to perform and entry level duties as a police officer, firefighter, paramedic and other safety services. Physical development and self confidence skills are emphasized due to the nature of the occupation. The employee should be trained in criminal and civil law, emergency responses to all types of incidents.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions vary from day to day operations. Physical agility is required as well as mental stability. Employees in this field are often required to work shift duty and long hours. Job hazards include bodily injuries and possibly fatalities. Rewards include saving lives and helping those in need.

PROJECTED SALARIES
Wages vary between $35,000 and $45,000 as an entry level police officer.

EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK
Job opportunities are plentiful. Police officer and paid firefighters are in demand with future projected growth. Increases in population, crime and disasters contribute to job growth. Public service workers have increased since 911.
